This adventure seems like it's just for kids--but it's not. It's one of my favorites. It encourages imagination. Yes, there are a few 'corny' parts to it--but it's still a nice film for a change of pace.
Nim's Island is a 2008 American adventure-fantasy film directed by Jennifer Flackett and Mark Levin and starring Abigail Breslin, Jodie Foster, and Gerard Butler. The story is based on the book Nim's Island by Wendy Orr. A young girl, Nim, seeks help from the author of her favorite adventure series when her scientist father goes missing. Nim, though, lives on an island in the South Pacific. The author, Alexandra Rover, is an agoraphobic living in San Francisco. Rover overcomes her fears and sets out in search of Nim while Nim tries to overcome her fear of losing her father. In the meantime, a cruise ship company threatens to invade Nim's island with uncouth tourists.

John Adams - 2008
In the mood for some history? Here is a classic that you'll love. Don't be fooled just because it's an HBO Television mini-series. I watched it over a couple of days while I was 'under the weather'. It's a GREAT movie.
The miniseries chronicles most of President John Adams's political life and his role in the founding of the United States. Paul Giamatti portrays John Adams. The miniseries was directed by Tom Hooper. Kirk Ellis wrote the screenplay based on the book John Adams by David McCullough.
The biopic of John Adams and the story of the first fifty years of the United States was broadcast in seven parts by HBO between March 16 and April 20, 2008. John Adams received generally positive reviews, and many prestigious awards. As of 2011, the show has won more Emmy awards than any other miniseries, and four Golden Globe awards.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona - 2008
Woody Allen finally came to his senses and didn't get in front of the camera. Instead, he chose the unlikely Rebecca Hall (actress) to be the female version of him. I loved the lines and overall romance, drama and comedy in this one. It takes you away to Western Europe, too.
The plot centers on two American women, Vicky and Cristina, spending a summer in Barcelona, where they meet an artist who is attracted to both of them while still enamored of his mentally and emotionally unstable ex-wife María Elena. The film was shot in Avilés, Barcelona, and Oviedo, and was Allen's fourth consecutive film shot outside of the United States.
As of July 2009, the film has grossed $96,408,652 worldwide; in relation to its $15 million budget, it is one of Allen's most profitable films.

Transsiberian - 2008
This is a suspenseful thriller one that takes you to Siberia. I even felt the chill in cold air as I watched this one. Be sure to have a warm blanket ready. As usual...actor Ben Kingsley performs a fabulous role.
The film is set on the Trans-Siberian Railway and its Trans-Manchurian branch, which runs from China to Moscow. Filming began in December 2006 in Vilnius, Lithuania, with additional photography in Beijing and Russia.
I really don't want to giveaway much of the plot but you won't be sorry with this adventure. Excellent film.

Australia - 2008
"Just because it IS, doesn't mean it SHOULD BE." -Nicole Kidman
Nevermind what anyone else may have said about this film. If you missed film director Baz Luhrmann's AUSTRALIA it is now time to watch it. You will not be disappointed. It's an epic historical romance film.
The film is a character story, set between 1939 and 1942 against a dramatised backdrop of events across northern Australia at the time, such as the bombing of Darwin during World War II. Film production took place in Sydney, Darwin, Kununurra, and Bowen.
